What Are Progressive Dances?

Progressive dances are a set of easy-to-learn short sequence dances that change partners as part of the dance sequence. These dances are a great way to break the ice and get students used to dancing with different partners in a class environment. They are often best learned by doing and have a very minimal theoretical side.

Long-Steps dance progressives based on Latin American and standard rhythms, and also teach progressive versions of the New Vogue marches. The Latin American progressives are: progressive Cha Cha, progressive Jive, and progressive Samba. The more standard rhythm based progressives include: Barn Dance, Hucklebuck, and Oslow Waltz.
