"It should be like running on water..."
Weekend Workshop - Quickstep for Beginners
Quickstep is a favourite among many ballroom dancers as it's fun, light, and breezy. With a wider range of steps than Slow Rhythm, but an easier time signature to dance than Waltz, Quickstep is the perfect dance for beginners to enter the world of standard ballroom dances. With an affectionately named basic step called the "dirty dozen" and additional steps like tipsy chasses, hesitations, pivot turns, spin turns, pendulums, and more this is a fantastic dance to dance, and is fun to learn.
This course is for people with little to no dance experience at all.
If you've never danced before, that doesn't matter - this is the workshop for you. Over the course of the day we'll take you through all the steps from scratch. We'll teach the boys how to lead and the girls how to follow. By the end of the day you will have a short Quickstep sequence to dance, and the tools to mix it up too.
You don't need any special equipment and you don't need dance shoes. If you don't have dance shoes then comfortable shoes with soft soles that don't grip are recommend. Boots and strong gripping shoes are not advised.
We'll kick off the dancing at 11am, so be sure to arrive a little earlier if you need to change shoes or general attire. The day will be broken into 4 sessions, with a lunch break at the half way point.
- 11:00am to 11:55am Session 1
