Weird name, beautiful dance
The first step? Learning how to prounounce it! The Excelsior Schottische is one of the five New Vogue dances derived from the Slow Foxtrot style, and is arguably the most difficult of them. It’s well worth the effort, though, because, once you’ve got the footwork and timing down, it is an elegant, intricate dance.
In the Advanced Class this month, we’ll work our way through the routine, workshopping those harder steps along the way. It's very beautiful, with aerials, oversways and points lending a lot of shape to it, but these intricacies definitely take two people to pull them off, so there will be quite a bit of focus on how to achieve this with your partner.
