Jive

As music got faster in the early 20th century, so did the dancing! In the 1920s, dances like the Charleston became fashionable to match the jazzy tones of the current music, and once the big bands of the 1930s got going, swing was in! The Lindy Hop, the Jitterbug and the Boogie-Woogie all paved the way for ballroom Jive. With its rock steps and away-and-back-again movement between the couple, this dance is a fun, fast ride!

Learn the Jive at Long-Steps

We’ll take you through all the steps from scratch. Even if you have never danced before, we will show you how. You do not need a partner to learn the dance, your instructor will dance through it with you.

Long-Steps currently teaches the Jive periodically during our Adult Classes and by Private Tuition.

Long-Steps teaches the Jive according to a combination of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) Dance Examinations Board’s Latin American Jive, and other reputable ballroom technique publications and resources.
